Gilroy, California - known as the Garlic Capitol of the World - is hosting its 34th annual Garlic Festival July 29 - 31, 2016.
Located about an hour south of San Jose, this California community produces more garlic than any other location in the US. The annual festival celebrates the flavorful little bulb, with cooking competitions, celebrity chefs, and, of course, every food that can possibly be made with garlic.
Gourmet Alley offers a wide selection of foods, from shrimp scampi to a garlic-chicken stir-fry and garlic fries.
Garlic is also featured in more unusual applications: garlic ice cream and fried garlic among them. There are also what are termed "vampire friendly" foods (those without garlic!).
The festival also offers lots of entertainment options, rock-climbing and other activities.
